Carbon Balancing?

Not so many people know exactly how carbon balancing works and so as we endorse it wholeheartedly for SMEs here’s a brief explanation.

188470.gifCarbon balancing let you pay to reduce the global carbon dioxide total instead of making radical or impossible reductions of your own.

Greenhouse gasses mix and spread in the atmosphere quickly so the situation of emissions is not so important – Co2 is Co2 is Co2!

Offsets might be achieved by planting a forest (trees suck up Co2 from the atmosphere and store it), making a power station more efficient or funding a renewable energy project.

It’s often possible to choose which project you endorse to offset your emissions. It’s often nice to see details like that on a business’s website.

All you have to do is pay a determined amount of money per unit of carbon that needs to be offset and carbon lowering project coordinators will take care of the rest!

It’s important to be thorough in finding an offsetter though because it is an area where ‘carbon cowboys’ can talk the talk but not walk the walk. There are various accreditation schemes around such as the Quality Assurance Standard set up by the government to verify carbon balancing projects.

Search the Q&A section using tags for views from the Suffolk community on offsetting projects.
